About the Santa Cruz County Youth Run Club

Our Mission

Santa Cruz County Youth Run Club is a non-profit organization,  educating Santa Cruz County's youth about health, leadership, teamwork and more all though the platform of running.

Our Mission is two fold.

To help schools to set up and establish a run club of their own. We aim to raise funds to sponsor a schools first year of run club and coach them through the fundraising process for subsequent years so they become a  self sufficient chapter. This club will always have the option to operate under the Santa Cruz County Youth Run Club Umbrella, Allowing all chapters to tap into pooled resources.

To create an ever expanding, changing and easy to follow coaching guide to give to the coaches running each chapter. This guide will give the coaches the flexibility of following the Santa Cruz County Run Club's                                                                            pre-printed workouts, health and safety                                                                                          talks and more.

Spring Family Fun Day

Thanks to our partnership with Fleet Feet Aptos, the Santa Cruz County Youth Run Club puts on a Family Fun Day event each Spring.

Family Fun Day is an event for the entire family focusing on fitness, physical challenges, community building and fun.

Eight Sponsors take a section of the track and run 10 minute stations where participants compete in events ranging from obstacle courses, races, yoga and other physical challenges.

Our generous sponsors are keystone businesses in the health and fitness industry locally here in Santa Cruz County, as well as big name household  athletic brands. You won't want to miss the fun and the  goodies these businesses bring to giveaway.

The date for this event in 2023 is Sunday, April 30th from 2:30-4:00 at the Soquel High School Track

Fall Run Club

A fan favorite, Fall Run Club combines the excitement of returning to school  and organized sports, with amazing Santa Cruz County Fall weather. With lots of opportunities for students to participate in races and fun runs such as Fleet Feet Aptos' Run for Pie the Fall is an excellent time for new and experienced runners to get out to community events including our Fall Family Fund Day.

Fall Run Club is where the chapter settles into a new routine and tweaks the program to put new ideas into place. We are constantly updating the program to reflect what we learned worked best the previous year.

Winter Run Club

Guaranteed to be a fun time, Winter Run Club brings the challenges of dealing with weather. Currently the chapter has a rain or shine philosophy unless safety dictates otherwise. This not only excites the children but also opens doors to great opportunities to talk about the importance of proper equipment, positive mental mindset and grit.

Spring Run Club

By Spring, most schools bring in new volunteer coaches to start training for the subsequent year. This session is a passing of the baton, so to say and a way to prepare the new coaches for the following year by shadowing the current coaches.  It is an opportunity for the new coaches to learn about the chapter's unique philosophies, traditions and curriculum.

Track and Field Improvement Days

This year our track and field improvement Day takes place on Sunday April 16th at Happy Valley Elementary School from 9-4

Volunteers from the school and community will come together to clean up, fill in and improve the existing .13 mile track that is used by the students, the community and the run club chapter.
